Blogtoberfest: Vincent Price’s Rap Career

If you are a horror fan from way back, and lived in the New York area, certainly you remember the 4:30 movies on WABC, channel 7.  They aired after The Edge of Night and were all those cheesy 70s movies we know and love.  Oftentimes, they would have a “theme week:”, such as Godzilla week, Gamera week, Monster week, Planet of the Apes week etc.  I always loved the Vincent Price/Edgar Allen Poe week.  It was a fun, not too scary, kinda cheesy introduction for kids to horror films. From then on, whenever I saw Vincent Price, I knew something scary or sinister was about to happen on-screen.  Michael Jackson must have had the same experience, because he tapped Mr. Price to do the “Thriller Rap”. Here, Mr. Price recreates his part on the Joan Rivers’ show, the first time he’s done it on television.  And the laugh.  The laugh.… Continued

Horror Movie Review: Død Snø

Zombies, oh Zombies.  Nazi Zombies. Nazi Zombies who are after their stolen treasure.  What could be better? Title: Død Snø Genre: Horror – Zombies…Nazi Zombies!! Director: Tommy Wirkola How have I not reviewed this movie yet? For goodness sake, I’m slacking off. Two words: NAZI ZOMBIES Here is the synopsis according to IMDB: A ski vacation turns horrific for a group of medical students, as they find themselves confronted by an unimaginable menace: Nazi zombies. I gave this movie an A. I went into it knowing what I was going to get…a B grade zombie popcorn flick. This movie did not to pretend to be anything more than that. And they succeeded in a grand fashion. First of all, we have the so-called Ice Monster prologue…a scary chase through the woods set to Edvard Grieg’s In the Hall of the Mountain King, which is awesome stuff in and of itself

Movie Review – Flashback – Stir of Echoes

Title: Stir of Echoes Genre: Thriller/Supernatural Horror Director: Davis Koepp http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0164181 Hey there lovelies! I’m taking a little vacation for the month of the December, which means I’m cleaning house (literally and figuratively) and sussing out my goals for 2016. Which in turns means movies and music galore! It’s a relief sometimes to take a step away from the pen and paper….but that doesn’t stop the ideas from bubbling over. Back to the movies. I took a little step back in time to screen Stir of Echoes. I remember watching this back in the day when it first came out on DVD. It’s based on a novel by Richard Matheson, who, as you must well know, wrote Nightmare at 20,000 Feet, I Am Legend and a few other horror/thriller stories. (I use the word “few” as being funny. Matheson was pretty prolific.) I must say, for a film from the

Horror Movie Review: Unfriended

Title: Unfriended Genre:  Horror, Thriller, Drama Director: Levan Gabriadze (as Leo Gabriadze) IMDB link:  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3713166/ Synopsis according to IMDB: A group of online chat room friends find themselves haunted by a mysterious, supernatural force using the account of their dead friend. I might be getting too old for this, I admit this up front.  I did not enjoy this movie on any level. Though I thought the story and the premise was excellent, the thirty year olds playing high schoolers did nothing to elicit my sympathy.  I couldn’t even enjoy it on the “so bad it’s good” level because there was little to no physical action. You couldn’t say “don’t go in there” or “stay out of the basement”.  Nope.  The entire movie took place on a laptop screen. As I said, this was an interesting concept and on some level, it was well executed.  Since I watched the movie

Horror Movie Review: The Frozen

Hey all!  I know I’ve been away for a bit.  With three little ones, the end of school week can a be a bit of a blur.  Between the graduations, the teacher’s gifts and the parties, it is a miracle I was able to take a breath.  But I’m back with another review for you.   Though I titled this a horror, it could easily be classified as a thriller.  It’s a little strange and confusing at times, but I enjoyed it…though I would not watch it again.   Title: The Frozen Genre: Horror/Thriller Director: Andrew Hyatt IMDB link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2363439/ No, this is not the Disney movie that took the world by storm. Look, I’m a huge sucker for going into the woods and bad things happening movies. Here is the synopsis according to IMDB: After a harrowing snowmobile accident, a young couple is stranded in the woods and must

Horror Movie Review: Annabelle

Title: Annabelle Genre: Horror Director: John R. Leonetti IMDB link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3322940/ IMDB synopsis: A couple begins to experience terrifying supernatural occurrences involving a vintage doll shortly after their home is invaded by satanic cultists. By now you know that I am not the strongest of heart when it comes to watching horror movies, but I watch them anyway because apparently I’m an idiot. Also, I like to be scared. I started Annabelle waaaay early in the morning because I can’t stand possessed doll movies. In the 1970s, I was scared to DEATH of the Magic trailer because of that weird-looking ventriloquist doll. I rewatched that movie a couple of months ago and it’s still kinda scary. My list of scary movie dolls or doll type things: Poltergeist (That damn clown!) Child’s Play (Only the first one) Magic (see above) The Puppetmaster (Ugh, I got chills just typing that.) But I
