Banned Books Week – My Favorites

“It was a dark and stormy night.” Ah, Banned Books Week always makes me rub my hands together in delight and dust off my old, decrepit paperback books. Taped covers, “bookworm” holes and dog eared pages – nothing beats a great book….. Unless it’s been banned. Just like bad boys, if a book is deemed “bad”, well, hell’s bells, I can’t wait to read it, or at least see what all the fuss is about. Many of the books I’ve read, I didn’t even realize were banned. Let me share the list of my top five banned books that I read over and over again. Confessions of a Blogger

The Nerdy Girlie posted on her confessions on her blog and encourage others to do the same. So here I go… 1. I am a terrible scheduler and get sidetracked too often, which wastes time. This morning is a prime example of this. I was supposed order groceries online, run updates on the laptop and do three loads of laundry. As it turned out, I was too late (at 9:30 am!!) to schedule grocery pickup for the day, the updates on the laptop, which were supposed to take fifteen minutes, instead took an HOUR AND HALF, and therefore, I only got one load of laundry in. I could have run downstairs during downloading the updates and popped a load of laundry in, but I kept thinking “only five more minutes” over and over. Not to mention that I discovered a chicken literally frozen to the shelf in the deep freeze

Football Friday – The Season Begins

Broncos vs Ravens And football season is upon us with a vengeance. Super Bowl champs the Baltimore Ravens paid a visit to the Mile-High City for a rematch. If you remember last year, the Ravens bested the Broncos in overtime to move on to the Super Bowl. Mind you, the NFL Channel never let us forget it – I have seen enough replays of the end of that game to last me a lifetime. I would venture to say that Peyton Manning and the Broncos gave the Ravens a bit of “get-back” last night. Yes, the first half was slow. A thirty-minute rain delay coupled with the slow saunter of the Ravens onto the field didn’t bode well for the Broncos, especially when it started to rain. Retro Saturdays – Crochet and Knit Patterns

My mother was an avid crocheter. There are bags and bags of yarn in the attic that can attest to this fact. She taught me to crochet, knit and do something called “broomstick lace” when I was a child and the yearning to create with yarn hits me on and off. I try to stay out of AC Moore and Michaels when they have the yarn sales, but sometimes the colors are too eye-catching to resist. Which brings me to crochet patterns. My mother was not an idle crocheter, no. Everything she crocheted had a purpose, whether it be a hat, scarf or, dare I say, funny looking sweater. She used to have a subscription to a magazine called Workbasket, and when I was at her house a few weeks ago, I found some old issues. Take a look at these totally retro crochet outfits. Running backs, also known as halfback or fullbacks (this depends on the size of the player), is sometimes the most visible player on the field. Overall, they also may have the best physique (read: hot bods) in the NFL. Wide receivers are a close second. From the Free Online Dictionary: running back n. Retro Saturday – Eighties Female Singers

I had a wonderful conversation on Facebook the other day. A FB friend of mine mentioned that her radio station had asked the question : Lisa Lisa (and Cult Jam) vs. Klymaxx. That started a thread of conversation that sent me digging through my piles of old cassettes. Now, I do love Lisa Lisa, so much so that I have two albums on CASSETTE, as you can see to your left. But Klymaxx was an all-girl group with the fierce Bernadette Cooper at the helm. They did the very sexy and strut-worthy “Meeting in the Ladies Room”, the know-I-got-it “The Men All Pause” and the heartfelt “I Miss You” just make me want to flip my asymmetrical hairdo and get down. Let’s not forget our friend, introduced to us by Prince, Sheila E. An accomplished drummer, she brought her vocals to Erotic City, The Glamorous Life and A Love Bizarre.
