Quirky Heroines, Happy Endings
The tragedy is when you’ve got sex in the head instead of down where it belongs. ~D.H. Lawrence
Sex is emotion in motion. ~Mae West
A dirty book is rarely dusty. ~Author Unknown
No matter how much cats fight, there always seem to be plenty of kittens. ~Abraham Lincoln
My personal favorite:
A chicken and an egg are lying in bed. The chicken is smoking a cigarette with a satisfied smile on its face and the egg is frowning and looking put out. The egg mutters to no one in particular, “I guess we answered that question.” ~Author Unknown
Today, as the first post on the brand new design and name of my blog (I am so addicted to change, it’s crazy, but that’s another blog post), I’m going to pour a glass of wine and whisper some sexy songs. When you write about love, whether it be sweet lovemaking or headboard banging …well banging, you have to feel the love, even if the dog that is your constant companion while you write is sending out stink bombs of nuclear proportion. (I think she actually poots out skunks, they smell so bad.) You have to get in a zone, and if your time is as short as mine, you have to get in that zone post haste.
Following this, here are some luscious tunes that are guaranteed to get you in that “mood”. They range from sweet and sensuous to all out raunchy. Therefore, without further ado and in no particular order…enjoy!
I Touch Myself – The Divinyls – Not sure if the song could be any more explicit than that, I mean the title alone, right?
I Touch Myself by The Divinyls 1991
Need you Tonight – INXS – Oh, Michael Hutchence, what great, great hair he had. And he’s not sleepy either.
Wicked Game – Chris Isaak – The video is just as bleak as the song, filmed in black and white on that black beach. He says he doesn’t want to fall in love…but he will.
Juicy Fruit – Mtume – Not the gum, folks. “You’re the only who gives me good and plenty…” I remember seeing this on New York Hot Tracks back in the 80s (Y’all remember Carlos DeJesus with that hot hairstyle and the shirt open to there, right?) This was such hot song, with lyrics like “I’ll be your lollipop, you can lick me everywhere…” that they cut portions of the song so that they could play it on the radio.
You Shook Me All Night Long – AC/DC – Yeah. Refer to the headboard banging…banging.
38 – You Shook Me All Night Long
No Ordinary Love – Sade – No one can sing a lovelorn song like Sade Adu. This…is….no…ordinary love….no ordinary love….
Lady Marmalade – LaBelle (not the little girls version with Christina Aguilera and co. This is Madame Patti’s version) Straight up no chaser…you wanna give a go, Joe?
LaBelle – Lady Marmalade (1975)
Nasty Girl – Vanity 6 – A group that was “sponsored” by Prince. Can’t you tell?
Give it to Me – Rick James – He was all about that sweet, funky stuff.
Give It To Me Baby – Rick James
Whole Lotta Love – Led Zeppelin – Another lead singer with great hair and tight , tight jeans. Gotta love a whole lotta Robert Plant. Remember this is the same band who recorded “Squeeze my lemon…till the juice runs down my leg…”
Led Zeppelin – Whole Lotta Love (1969)
Now that you’ve been properly inspired……

I decided to sit down and write this post today because there is usually a lot of discussion among writers about writer’s block and how to overcome it. I am a slow writer, I admit it. And I often have a few stories in the queue because I tend to lose interest quickly, especially if a scene is not going well, or I discover (make up) new things about my characters.
Sometimes, however you have to buckle down and finish a chapter or a scene and it’s just not working. So, I use music. And not the typical “baby making music”, although I think babies can be made from any kind of music, from Schubert, to Sinatra, to Springsteen, to Sam Cooke, to Twisted Sister, to whatever floats your boat.
When I’m stuck in a writing a physical love scene, when I just can’t find the words to express what I want to say and I’ve trolled the thesaurus several times and things still aren’t coming together, I fall back on music.
Since I come from a long line of musicians and have played several instruments, I know the passion that is needed to turn a piece of music into something that is both evocative to the listener and an emotional experience for the musician.
The same thing goes for writing romance. I have written physical love scenes that were technically “right there” but boring as heck to read. I have also written physical love scenes that were awkward and didn’t quite “flow” but truly evoked the feelings between the hero and the heroine. I’d rather tweak on of the latter scenes than slave forever over the former.
I’ve prattled on enough, let’s get to the songs! (This is just an excuse for me to get to YouTube, you know…)
How about “Nobody Does it Better”?
“I wasn’t looking, but somehow you found me….”
Nobody Does it Better – Carly Simon
“I’m going crazy/I’m losing sleep/I’m in too far, I’m in way too deep/ over you….” Cheap Trick..The Flame
You can’t lose with Journey – Open Arms
And All the Things you Are – Sinatra
“Some day, my happy arms will hold you/And some day, I’ll know that moment divine/When all the things you are, are mine….”
All The Things You Are – Frank Sinatra
These are just a sampling of the songs that I use to boost me further in writing my narrative and/or putting some emotion in physical love scenes. What are some of your “musical creativity boosters?”

Today, we are visiting with author D. X. Luc, whose recent release is Down the Yellow Brick Road: Finding Home, a fantasy erotic romance.
What has been the toughest criticism given to you as an author?
I really enjoy the criticism. It helps me perfect my skills as a writer. As for specifics, my toughest was for my first book. I’m still new but I learned that I went too deep into background in the beginning which was boring for the reader. Luckily the rest of the book did pick up, but now I know to not try and fill all the details in the front. I try and spread it out as the characters and plot progresses. I have to say though, it did bother me a bit because I thought, “Oh no, my first review and I’ve failed!” But I realize that wasn’t the case lol.
What is the easiest part of writing for you? What is the hardest part?
The easiest part for me is coming up with a story. I always have them floating around in my mind. The hardest part really is the end. I hate saying goodbye to my characters.
Do you have any advice to aspiring writers?
Never give up and find as many blogs and research articles to help you perfect your writing skills. Free advice is great, especially when coming from already published authors who’ve been where you are.
Name some of your favorite movies.
My favorites are Princess Bride, Labyrinth, Legend. I will always stop to watch them if they’re on.
Name some of your favorite books.
My first loves were books by Virginia Henley, then Catherine Coulter. I love Angelia Whiting and Lora Leigh. Sherrilyn Kenyon. So many to name really.
Do you have a writing regimen?
I try to have one. I’m a stay at home mom of three, I homeschool, and I make baby items for an online store. Finding time is often hard, but when I can get it, I do.
What are the perks of being an author?
Seeing my dreams come true. I’ve always wanted to be a “story teller” since I was a child and now I have that honor of being such.

Now you get to ask me a question: If you had a choice, would you have a pet ball python or a pink tarantula?
I’d prefer the pink tarantula because it’s cute and pink is one of my favorite colors. Plus, its tank wouldn’t have to be that large.
Thanks so much for taking the time to visit with us D.X.! I wish you the most success in your future endeavors.

Imagine having someone so devoted to you and you don’t even know it. What if that person, that perfect one was right under your nose? What if that person was not only the hero of your heart, but a savior to many?
Dorothy Gale found herself growing older and was stuck in neutral. She wanted adventure and love. Yet her love life was non-existent, with only fantasies of hot sex and being dominated keeping her company. Lacking in human companionship, she felt blessed to have her devoted dog, Toto. He was her solace. Little did she know, her dog had a big secret and an even greater destiny.
Excerpt:
There she was, her body pale and still in the dimly lit cave. Toto had gotten back hours ago, made another fire, ate, and found himself in a conundrum. Should he shift or stay a man, was a question that plagued him. He weighed the pros and cons, but they kept evening out. He had to get air, and away from her in the vulnerable state she was in. Moving to the mouth of the cave, he saw the sun peeking below the horizon. He hadn’t stopped to rest on his way back from Nessarose and knew he couldn’t if he wanted. The sounds of beasts on the forest floor added to his list of why he needed to stay a man. He couldn’t protect her if he were a dog. She also wasn’t very good at reading maps and would probably get lost.
His final reason as to why he made his choice was that she had never actually seen him as a man. Except that one time when she saw his reflection in the window, but he had changed fast enough for her to think she was going crazy. Toto knew what he would do. With a determined stride, he made his way back to her side and glided a hand down her silky thigh. Stopping at her bare foot, he lifted it and with a deep breath, slipped the boot over the delicate arch, repeating the task on the other side. Knowing there was no turning back, he slowly zipped them up, then sat back, hoping beyond all hope they would wake her.
Toto held his breath and waited as the exotic shoes shimmered and pulsated with light that traveled up the length of Dorothy’s body. The glow became too bright for his sensitive eyes and he had to turn his head to keep from being blinded. Several minutes passed before it died down and he cautiously turned his head back. Mouth agape, he knew the woman sitting before him was Dorothy and yet, she looked like a different person. Her red hair, usually pulled into a tight bun, flowed in luscious waves that cascaded down to her breasts. Her outfit seemed to have a life of its own and he itched to pull her into his arms. He hadn’t realized he moved closer to touch her until he heard her sharp intake and saw that her vibrant green eyes were filled with both fire and fear.
