Five Characters I'd Love to be for Halloween

Here we are again for the Five Fandom Friday link up!  I must say I am enjoying these little trips every week. Let’s get right to the chase, shall we?  Here they are in no particular order. Captain Jack Sparrow – Pirates of the Caribbean movies   How much fun would it be to be a pirate (in the movie world, of course, forget the killing and the shooting and the scurvy and terrible food).  I loved the Pirate movies and remember the ride as a child at Disney World.  The long coat, the beads and shoot, there’s even a purse!  What’s not to like about this?     Akasha, Queen of the Damned   Just because… Aaliyah.  What an awesome costume.  Nuff said.     Steampunk-ish Victorian     All I would need is to add a pair of goggles and an umbrella! Poison Ivy     Yeah, so maybe… Continued

Blogtoberfest – Magic (and not the Mike kind)

This is a movie that scared the mess out of me when I was a teenager.  First of all, I am no fan of ventriloquist dummies.  I can’t stand them, they scare the heck out of me.  Give me a movie with a dummy and you’ve got me scared. A looooooong time ago, back in 1978, there was this movie trailer that ran on television.  Mind you, this was back in the fun 70s where the cars waiting in line for gas would queue in front of my parents’ house.   This trailer wasn’t anything NEAR Silent Hill 3d (which by the way also frightens me with its grotesqueness) but was creepy just in the fact that it featured a dummy. The movie was directed by Richard Attenborough, the kindly old John Hammond in Jurassic Park. You’ll also find Burgess Meredith, Ann-Margaret, and Here’s the creepy trailer.   According to Wikipedia

Halloween Costumes that Murder Childhood

I let my children dress up.  That’s it.  I’m beyond the stage where I’m going to put on a purchased costume and parade around.  As a woman of a certain age, I know when its time to give the children the spotlight and fade into the background. However, as a woman of a certain age, I’ve lived long enough (thank the good Lord) to witness the diabolical attempt at destroying my childhood with devious sexiness.  Note the following horrible sexy costumes that shouldn’t be. There will be no commentary.  Just scroll down, seeing your childhood go down in flames while your eyes melt down your face a la the Nazis at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark. [slideshow_deploy id=1244] Yay!  I wrecked your childhood too! D

Blogtoberfest – Funny Halloween Movies

Oh, you sneaky Blogtoberfest, you almost got me, didn’t you?  Clever girl.  But I am not going to make the same mistake I did a few nights ago and scare myself so much I’m sitting up and jumping and shadows.  No.  Today’s blog post is about the fun and/or campy Halloween movies.  Unfortunately, there is an evil clown in one of them, but it’s balanced by a gangsta Woody Harrelson. Which brings me to my first move, Zombieland.  Zombies scare me but I watch ’em anyway.  It’s something about the apocalyptic, nomad type existence that happens after such devastation that I enjoy.  I like Zombieland because the lead guy isn’t a big ol’ tough zombie-killing hero, no sir.  He’s a scared little beta dude, running for his life.  “Double-Tap” indeed.  A fun film to watch with excellent zombie-killing sequences that make you think “I could do that”.  Let me tell

Five Halloween Books for Scarilicious Reading

Yes, we like the movies, but there’s nothing like a scary book to curl up with on a dark, blustery night.  When I lived alone, I used to scare myself to death with the sounds that I thought I heard when I was reading an especially scary book.  And the dog didn’t help when she jump up and ran out of the room for no apparent reason. (Sometimes I think dogs do that on purpose to  scare the mess out of us.  Then they go drink out of the toilet and laugh at us.) Anyhoo, here’s my top five books to read around Halloween, or any time.  These are presented in no particular order. Pet Sematary  – Stephen King:  I can’t tell you how much this book frightened me.  I discuss this in more detail over at my blog, if you care to take a look.  Suffice to say, while

Halloween Recipe – Roasted Vegetable Quesadillas

Easy-Peasy, guys and dolls.  These tasty roasted vegetable quesadillas are a great finger food for your Halloween gathering.  I know, there’s no meat in them, but trust me, they’re good…and I am a gal who can sink her teeth in a steak. Do NOT use canned corn. It will give your dish a weird, canned taste.  Take it from me.     Prep: 15 min. Bake: 20 min.  12 Servings Ingredients 1 medium onion, chopped 1 medium zucchini, chopped 1 medium sweet red pepper, chopped 1 cup frozen corn, thawed 1 tablespoon olive oil 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin 4 tomato flour tortillas (10 inches) 1 cup (4 ounces) shredded Mexican cheese blend Guacamole, sour cream, salsa and sliced ripe olives, optional   Directions In a large bowl, combine the vegetables, oil and cumin; toss to coat.
