Quirky Heroines, Happy Endings

Storytellers – Jorja Lovett

I am welcoming Jorja Lovett to my blog this week for my Storytellers series. A little more about Jorja before we begin….

In an all-female household, Jorja grew up surrounded by books and the idea of finding true love. She began writing her own stories at the tender age of fifteen but never actually finished a manuscript until last year when she joined her crit group, UCW. It’s important to her that romances have a sexy hero, a quirky heroine and have that all important happy ending.

Her newest release – Into the Wild will be available April 16th from Evernight Publishing.  The cover is way awesomely hot, right?

Here’s the blurb…

After another doomed relationship, Laurie Sommers cocoons herself in the ‘living ghost town’ of Coyote Creek. But the arrival of Smith Masterson, her unrequited teenage love, torpedoes her cozy spinsterhood, setting her ablaze with a burning desire she believed long gone.

A Texas Ranger through and through, there’s no room for a relationship in Smith’s life – not at eighteen and certainly not now, when he’s investigating a robbery and the subsequent shooting of the Captain. Persuading Laurie to fake a relationship to keep his cover is the easy part; the hard part is restraining himself around her.

Onto the interview…

What has been the toughest criticism given to you as an author?

To be honest, I think I am my own worst critic. I have doubts with every manuscript until I can no longer look at it objectively. I guess that’s why we have CPs!

What is the easiest part of writing for you?  What is the hardest part?

The easiest part of any story is the first chapter. I always know exactly how I want to start and I love the initial meet between my lead characters. That’s my favourite part  <grins>

The hardest part of writing for me is just getting motivated. I’m lazy by nature and will find countless distractions when I should be writing.

Do you have any advice to aspiring writers?

Hang in there! It’s all about perseverance and one day all your hard work will pay off.

Name some of your favorite movies.

I’m a sucker for romance and I like feisty heroines. 10 Things I Hate About You is one of my favourites, along with The Ugly Truth.

Name some of your favorite books.

I have a real pick’n’mix book collection, everything from Stephen King to Jackie Collins but my faves at the minute are the Charlaine Harris, True Blood books.

Do you have a writing regimen?

We-ell, I basically scribble in a notebook when the mood takes me, fuelled by tea and chocolate, and I edit when I type it up. Yes, it’s a long process but that’s the way I roll lol

What are the perks of being an author?

Being an author is awesome because I get to do what I love – write – and I can do it anytime, anywhere.

Quickies:

Fuzzy socks or slippers?

Slippers. I’m wearing a pair of monster feet shaped ones right now.

What’s your favorite shape?

A circle. Smooth and curvy.

Crayons, markers or paint?

I used to paint a lot so that’s a no-brainer.

Spanish or French?

Spanish. It’s so much sexier.

Word Association:

Writer: Notebook

Cheese: Smelly

Bestseller: Into The Wild (I can dream!)

Supermarket: Trolley

Now you get to ask the Sultry Scribe a question: What’s your favourite scene in your current WIP?

Hmmm, my favorite scene in my current WIP….let’s see…it’s a scene where my heroine makes the hero strip down to his skivvies…at gunpoint.

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer these questions, Jorja.  Best of luck on your newest release!

It’s been fun. I hope you enjoy my Texas Ranger J

Excerpt…

“Did you know Smithy’s packing heat?” David jerked his head in the direction of her love interest, presumably in an attempt to divert her attention from his flirting.

Laurie’s eyes were bright as Smith opened his jacket to accommodate her, indulging in a leisurely perusal of his built bod.

Only when she had wandered over the muscular landscape of his thighs, did she get the joke. Slung low from his hip was a black holster complete with replica pistol.

“Apparently I can’t be trusted with the real thing.” Amusement danced in those chocolate irises, whether at her noticeable fascination with the heat between his legs or the pretend gun, she wasn’t certain.

“These guys are trained, professional in what they do. They can’t have every Tom, Dick or Harry running about shooting all and sundry.” Laurie respected Buster’s rules and expected Smith to do so.

“And which am I?” He let the coat fall closed, and she realized she was still staring at his nether regions. It was as well they hadn’t put him in a pair of leather chaps or she would never have torn her eyes away.

“Tom?” He stepped closer.

“Harry?” Another step.

“Or Dick?”

She licked her scarlet lips, the shadow of his Stetson falling over her cleavage. Yep, he knew what she had been staring at.

“Places, everyone!” Camille rapped the bar to garner attention.

“Where do we go?” Smith’s arm curled around her cinched waist.

“The fight scene usually starts over a card game, so we need to blend into the background. There’s a perfect view from the balcony if you want to see what’s going on.”

Laurie tried to focus on playing her part and not the possessive hold of the handsome gunslinger at her side.            Taking up position at the top of the staircase, they had a clear view of proceedings. Visitors crowded around to watch the drama unfolding between Wes and Buster, the dapper conman and the gnarly cowhand. Smith leaned over the balcony rail as the gamblers set up the card school below.

“How much?” he said without turning around.

“Excuse me?” She had a feeling she knew where he was going with this, but he didn’t sound as though he was joking.

“How much for an hour in there?” He indicated the bedrooms with a nod of his head.

“Oh no, us saloon girls are here for company only. We talk, we dance, we get you to buy drinks, but we don’t do that, sir.” If he was letting loose and getting into character then she was happy to play her part.

“No? The men of the old west respect that?”

“They do unless they want to enrage the barkeep.” She could imagine Wes’s reaction to her being propositioned on his premises.

“I think I’ll take my chances.” Laurie let out a squeal when he lifted her off her feet. Throwing her over his shoulder, legs and petticoats flying, he bundled her into the room.

“Sir, I think the establishment down the road would be more suitable to your needs,” she said, half-heartedly fending off the advances of the dashing stranger.

“I’ve got everything I need right here, darlin’.” His mouth ravaged hers, and the hard, passionate kisses were every bit as much of a turn on as the soft, lingering ones she had gotten used to. Hoisting her by the rump, he pulled her close until his hardness pressed into her belly. His lips and tongue pursued heedlessly, leaving her stunned by the sudden turnaround in the chase.

Minimum effort was required to free her from the restrictive corset. A quick tug poured her breasts into his greedy hands, and his insatiable tongue relocated to attend her rosy tips. “You’re beautiful.”

She wasn’t sure what the catalyst had been to change his mind, but she wasn’t about to question his sudden horniness. Her skin was on fire with every lick; it cooled with the breath of his reverent words. The contrasting sensations had her spinning, the earth moving beneath her.

Lifting her onto the dresser, he pushed the cracked porcelain jug and basin to one side. He pulled her to the edge and wrenched her thighs apart. A deft hand snaked along her silk-clad leg and paused at the frilly red garter.

“What’s this?” He stepped back for a closer inspection, and whistled. “I think we’ll leave that there for the time being.”

“Why, is it turning you on?”

He grabbed her hand and rubbed it along his crotch, the rigid expanse answering her question. “What do you think?”

Had Smith finally decided to give in to wild abandon? She certainly hoped so.

As if reading her mind, he ripped her panties off in one, swift movement. She reached for him and stroked his hard bulge begging for release. This time he made no attempt to stop her.

His silver belt buckle wasn’t so co-operative, and she struggled to open it. “Do you really need to wear this darn thing? It doesn’t make it easy for a girl to get in there, you know.”

With practiced movements, he released the catch and whipped it out of his waistband. “Better?”

The green light had her popping the buttons of his fly open, his firm length nudging her. The slight contact through the cotton of his boxer briefs caused him to gasp. Desperate to see all of him, she pulled him free, his long, thick cock springing proudly from a mass of black curls. Slick in preparation, she anticipated its courtship.

The distant sound of shouting and tables being overturned briefly stalled her. Smith’s cock jerked, impatient for tending. In compliance, she encircled him with her hand, grasping firmly. He planted his hands on the dresser and braced himself.

With the building friction along his shaft, he moaned and thrust. She cupped his sac, massaging until his tip glistened with the promise of what was to come.

Storytellers – Tara Chevrestt

I’d like to welcome Tara Chevrestt to my Storytellers series.

A  little bit about Tara from her own website:

I’m a deaf woman, former aviation mechanic, writer, and an editor. I love planes, motorcycles, and above all, reading. That led to my love of writing. I think I have the greatest job in the world now…

I write as both Tara Chevrestt and Sonia Hightower. The reason for that is they are different genres. Tara writes cleaner or sweeter, and Ride for Rights is a young adult historical so when I penned Sinful Urges which is a tad on the erotic side, I chose a pen name. And I couldn’t have only one book to her name…so Sonia wrote another…and another..

Sonia’s newest release is called Afterburn.  Let’s visit with Tara for a bit, shall we?

What has been the toughest criticism given to you as an author?

Not enough male POV. I’m not a dude. I don’t read about men or understand quite how they think, so I have a hard time with the male POV and I get tired of hearing people belly-ache about it. LOL

What is the easiest part of writing for you?  What is the hardest part?

The easiest…I just have a ton of ideas. That comes easy. The hardest is trying to get people to read my work, and thus, keep myself motivated.

Do you have any advice to aspiring writers?

Be prepared to spend all day on the computer. Even after the book is wrote, you still got edits, and then promoting…

Name some of your favorite movies.

I love old black and white movies. Johnny Belinda blew me away. The Children’s Hour. The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer. Love Cary Grant and Greta Garbo.

Name some of your favorite books.

Molokai by Alan Brennert. Unsaid by Neil Abramson.

Do you have a writing regimen?

No. I just write when I feel like it. LOL. And usually when the husband is at work.

What are the perks of being an author?

Meeting other authors. Doing Beta reads. Getting sneak peaks.

You are having a dinner party.  You are able to invite one literary character, one president, one musician, one sports figure and one movie villain.

Literary Character: Veda Grenfell from The Tailor’s Daughter because I see so much of myself in her.

President: JFK. He was the best looking…and I’d ask him to bring his super fine son.

Musician: Pink. She rocks.

Sports Figure: Victor Cruz. I’d make him do the salsa.

Movie Villain: Catwoman/Michelle Pfeiffer. (sp?) That would have to be my favorite villain.

Quickies:

Fuzzy socks or slippers? Fuzzy socks

What’s your favorite shape? triangle

Crayons, markers or paint? markers

Spanish or French? Spanish

Word Association:

Writer: Christina Courtenay

Cheese: Sharp Cheddar

Bestseller: Nora Roberts

Supermarket: Homeland

Now you get to ask me a question: Why the favorite shape question?? Because I used to be a teacher…..

Thanks so much, Tara for stopping by.  Here’s a blurb from her new book, Afterburn:

Their love burns hot, but will it stay fueled?

Crystal is an enlisted mechanic with a tragic past. Grant is an officer and a pilot with a broken heart. When faced with a difficult decision, will Crystal choose wisely or lose the best thing that ever happened to her?

The love between them burns hot, but their relationship won’t stay fueled if they can’t beat the obstacles that stand in their way. Besides breaking the fraternization rules, Grant and Crystal have the difference of race between them…but can they prove to the rest of the world, and to each other, that love is color blind?

Afterburn is about overcoming one’s past, not judging others, learning to forgive, and what it’s like to be a woman in a “man’s world.”

Ready to buy?  Of course you are:

Storytellers Series – Adonis Devereux

I am pleased to welcome Adonis Devereux to the Storytellers Series. Before we jump into the interview, a little about Adonis Devereux:

Adonis Devereux is two people made one. He grew up in Michigan and in rural Indiana, a Midwestern boy with a passion for story. She was rootless, a Virginia native who lived in London, Paris, and Rome before her parents settled just outside Tokyo. Like him, stories burned in her. Together, they are Adonis Devereux.

What has been the toughest criticism given to you as an author?

Before we got our first contract, we put the first chapter of our work-in-progress up for critique on a writer’s forum. One man who was retired from professional journalism told us that it was so boring that he couldn’t finish the excerpt. Ouch!

What is the easiest part of writing for you?  What is the hardest part?

The easiest part is being able to work side by side with someone who loves writing as much as you do. We write as a team, husband and wife, side by side in life, writing, and everything else. The hardest part is keeping our six kids out of our hair while we write. This is why we use the buddy system. “OK, in age order, you take care of your buddy. Oldest, watch after number 4. Second oldest, watch after number 5. Third, watch after six!”

Do you have any advice to aspiring writers?

Don’t aspire. Do. If you write, you’re not aspiring. You’re a writer. If you’re aspiring, it means you probably want to write but are too lazy to do so because you spend all day on Facebook. Cancel your internet account and get writing. No distractions, no excuses.

Name some of your favorite movies.

Glory, The Shawshank Redemption, Boogie Nights, Blow, Terminator, and many more.

Name some of your favorite books.

Moby-Dick, Jane Eyre, anything by Vonnegut, The Master and Margarita, Dracula, and many more.

Do you have a writing regimen?

Our writing regimen begins before we ever open a new document file on our computer. We take walks and talk through our next novel. Once we have kind of an idea of the story we want to tell, we start outlining. First we get a general outline down. Then, from that outline, we break down our book chapter by chapter. Only when we have that chapter-by-chapter outline do we start actually writing. But if writing is some part storytelling, then we’ve been writing all along, haven’t we? While one of us writes, the other FB pimps or does other non-drafting author things. The female half of our duo seems to be able to write anytime, anywhere. The male half is a bit more limited in his concentration: he can write only when the kids are all in bed. She writes the heroine’s POV, he the hero’s.

What are the perks of being an author?

Just being an author! It is immensely gratifying. I guess the best-seller status from some vendors is nice, too, but we don’t brag about that.  One of the best things is being around like-minded writers who keep us diverted on a daily basis. Thanks, y’all! You know who you are!

You are having a dinner party.  You are able to invite one literary character, one president, one musician, one sports figure and one movie villain.

Literary Character: Finrod Felagund, from The Silmarillion

President: Teddy Roosevelt

Musician: John Lennon

Sports Figure: Atlanta

Movie Villain: Sauron (at the same party as Finrod? That should be interesting!)

Quickies:

Fuzzy socks or slippers?

He: Slippers  She: Fuzzy slippers?

What’s your favorite shape?

She: Sphere  He: Star

Crayons, markers or paint?

He: Markers  She: Colored pencils

Spanish or French?

She: Spanish  He: French

Word Association:

Writer: busy

Cheese: cheddar

Bestseller: vampire

Supermarket: bike rides

Now you get to ask me a question….

How long have you been writing? I have been writing for approximately five  years, but have only been “serious” for the last two.

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer these questions!

Storytellers Series: Author D. X. Luc

Today, we are visiting with author D. X. Luc, whose recent release is Down the Yellow Brick Road: Finding Home,  a fantasy erotic romance.

What has been the toughest criticism given to you as an author?

I really enjoy the criticism. It helps me perfect my skills as a writer. As for specifics, my toughest was for my first book. I’m still new but I learned that I went too deep into background in the beginning which was boring for the reader. Luckily the rest of the book did pick up, but now I know to not try and fill all the details in the front. I try and spread it out as the characters and plot progresses. I have to say though, it did bother me a bit because I thought, “Oh no, my first review and I’ve failed!” But I realize that wasn’t the case lol.

What is the easiest part of writing for you?  What is the hardest part?

The easiest part for me is coming up with a story. I always have them floating around in my mind. The hardest part really is the end. I hate saying goodbye to my characters.

Do you have any advice to aspiring writers?

Never give up and find as many blogs and research articles to help you perfect your writing skills. Free advice is great, especially when coming from already published authors who’ve been where you are.

Name some of your favorite movies.

My favorites are Princess Bride, Labyrinth, Legend. I will always stop to watch them if they’re on.

Name some of your favorite books.

My first loves were books by Virginia Henley, then Catherine Coulter. I love Angelia Whiting and Lora Leigh. Sherrilyn Kenyon. So many to name really.

Do you have a writing regimen?

I try to have one. I’m a stay at home mom of three, I homeschool, and I make baby items for an online store. Finding time is often hard, but when I can get it, I do.

What are the perks of being an author?

Seeing my dreams come true. I’ve always wanted to be a “story teller” since I was a child and now I have that honor of being such.

You are having a dinner party.  You are able to invite one literary character, one president, one musician, one sports figure and one movie villain.

Literary Character: Santiago from Old Man and the Sea

President: Abraham Lincoln

Musician: Chris Cornell

Sports Figure: Clay Matthews (mmmm)

Movie Villain: Hannibal Lecter

Quickies:

Fuzzy socks or slippers? Fuzzy socks

What’s your favorite shape? Circle

Crayons, markers or paint? Crayons

Spanish or French? French

Word Association:

Writer: Me

Cheese: Burger

Bestseller: Rick Riordan

Supermarket: Acme

Now you get to ask me a question: If you had a choice, would you have a pet ball python or a pink tarantula?

I’d prefer the pink tarantula because it’s cute and pink is one of my favorite colors.  Plus, its tank wouldn’t have to be that large.

Thanks so much for taking the time to visit with us D.X.!  I wish you the most success in your future endeavors.

Down the Yellow Brick Road – Finding Home

Blurb:

Imagine having someone so devoted to you and you don’t even know it. What if that person, that perfect one was right under your nose? What if that person was not only the hero of your heart, but a savior to many?

Dorothy Gale found herself growing older and was stuck in neutral. She wanted adventure and love. Yet her love life was non-existent, with only fantasies of hot sex and being dominated keeping her company. Lacking in human companionship, she felt blessed to have her devoted dog, Toto. He was her solace. Little did she know, her dog had a big secret and an even greater destiny.

Excerpt:

There she was, her body pale and still in the dimly lit cave. Toto had gotten back hours ago, made another fire, ate, and found himself in a conundrum. Should he shift or stay a man, was a question that plagued him. He weighed the pros and cons, but they kept evening out. He had to get air, and away from her in the vulnerable state she was in. Moving to the mouth of the cave, he saw the sun peeking below the horizon. He hadn’t stopped to rest on his way back from Nessarose and knew he couldn’t if he wanted. The sounds of beasts on the forest floor added to his list of why he needed to stay a man. He couldn’t protect her if he were a dog. She also wasn’t very good at reading maps and would probably get lost.

His final reason as to why he made his choice was that she had never actually seen him as a man. Except that one time when she saw his reflection in the window, but he had changed fast enough for her to think she was going crazy. Toto knew what he would do. With a determined stride, he made his way back to her side and glided a hand down her silky thigh. Stopping at her bare foot, he lifted it and with a deep breath, slipped the boot over the delicate arch, repeating the task on the other side. Knowing there was no turning back, he slowly zipped them up, then sat back, hoping beyond all hope they would wake her.

Toto held his breath and waited as the exotic shoes shimmered and pulsated with light that traveled up the length of Dorothy’s body. The glow became too bright for his sensitive eyes and he had to turn his head to keep from being blinded. Several minutes passed before it died down and he cautiously turned his head back. Mouth agape, he knew the woman sitting before him was Dorothy and yet, she looked like a different person. Her red hair, usually pulled into a tight bun, flowed in luscious waves that cascaded down to her breasts. Her outfit seemed to have a life of its own and he itched to pull her into his arms. He hadn’t realized he moved closer to touch her until he heard her sharp intake and saw that her vibrant green eyes were filled with both fire and fear.

“Wh-who are you? Where am I?”

Storyteller Series: Aliyah Burke

I’d like to welcome Aliyah Burke to my Storytellers series! Her newest book is What the Earl Desires from Passion in Print Publishing.

What has been the toughest criticism given to you as an author?

Probably to stop and never attempt to write again. We see how well that worked out for me. J

What is the easiest part of writing for you?  What is the hardest part?

The actual writing. I love it when a story is flowing and I can just sit down and knock out huge parts at a time. The days when I don’t want to stop because of how well I’m getting what the characters want portrayed. The hardest? Trying to explain it to someone in technical terms. I have people ask me about GMC (Goal, Motivation, and Conflict), my internal and external problems as well story arcs. I don’t write that way, so I struggle to explain it to them. I write the story as the characters tell me. I learn what their motivations are as we go along but I don’t hit a point and say, oh…that’s turning point two, or anything like that. So that’s what’s the hardest for me. Well, that and trying to keep up with the voices in my head. J

Do you have any advice to aspiring writers?

Don’t give up. Just because someone said they didn’t like it doesn’t mean you should quit. Develop a thick skin because this is a harsh business and you have to learn how to deal with criticism and rejection. We can’t please everyone and you’ll only be disappointed if you are expecting to. Understand that what works for someone else (their writing process) may not be how it works for you. Listen to advice but don’t think you have to do it all, find out what works for you and go with that. Don’t be discouraged just because you may not be putting out the word count a day as someone else. We all write at our own speed.

Name some of your favorite movies.

Ladyhawke

Black stallion movies

Man from Snowy River/Return to Snowy River

Lonesome Dove

Gone with the Wind

Sleeping Beauty

The Princess and the Frog

Name some of your favorite books.

Dark Horse series by Mary Herbert

Psy/Changelings series by Nalini Singh

The Golden Thirteen by Paul Stillwell

SEALS series by H. Jay Riker

Many more but those are some.

Do you have a writing regimen?

Normally yes. With the holidays it’s kinda of all messed up. But my day starts about 0500, I get up and take care of the dogs then sit down to write for a few hours. Take a break, run/jog, walk the dogs, eat, clean etc, then get back to work. How much I do depends on what the schedule is like for that day. I check it first thing every morning so I have an idea of what the day will be like.

What are the perks of being an author?

Besides being able to go to work in pj’s? J I think I would have to say that inspiration is always all around us. All we have to do is take the time to look. I’m very blessed to be able to do this and thank God every day for the opportunity.

You are having a dinner party.  You are able to invite one literary character, one president, one musician, one sports figure and one movie villain.

Oh…only one per…sigh…let me see.

Literary Character: the Time Traveller (from H.G. Wells’ The Time Machine)

President: Theodore Roosevelt

Musician: Kenny Chesney (this isn’t a fair question…there are sooo many)

Sports Figure: Valdiron de Oliveira (I love bull fighting and seriously impressed by this Brasilian)

Movie Villain: Darth Vader (need I say anymore? J)

Quickies:

Fuzzy socks or slippers? I prefer to be barefoot but fuzzy socks, w/ soled slippers by the door to slip on in case I have to run outside.

Now you get to ask me a question: 😉

Do you like dogs, and if so what’s your favourite breed?

I love dogs!  My favorite breed are usually the bigger ones, Rottweilers and Shephards, but I have a medium sized American Bulldog mix that is just too cute!

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer these questions!

Thank you for having me here. I had a blast.

Book Blurb:

From England’s cold mausoleum homes to Africa’s vastness, Colin fights for the love and respect of a warrior’s heart to keep his family together.

Preferring solitude, Colin Faulkner resides at his country estate. Yet, fate being fickle, introduces a mysterious woman into his life. Societal dictates say he has no business wanting her…he does.

Najja’s in England for one thing, however, meeting Colin changes everything. After he unexpectedly becomes Earl of Clifton, Najja withdraws. Her excuse? His title. Her vow.

Colin doesn’t care, but wanting and having Najja are two different things. For Najja can never truly be his so long as another controls her.

Obstacles are meaningless when a love that spans the continents is…

What the Earl Desires

Excerpt:

“This is a tooth.”

“Yes, it is.”

“What is it from?”

“A leopard.”

He cocked his head to the side. “Who gave it to you?”

“I earned it. When I was younger.”

A furrow appeared between his eyes. “What did you have to do in order to earn this?”

She touched the large canine tooth. “Survive.”

He dropped the tooth and gave her all his attention. “I do not like the sound of that.”

Unrepentant she shrugged. Her life was as it was and she offered no excuses.

“Are you telling me you fought a leopard?”

She nodded as her mind flashed back to that day. The magnificent male had breathed his last with her. Even in death the creature’s lethal beauty could be felt and demanded respect. So did the wounds the cat had inflicted upon her young body. Injures she ignored until she’d given the creature a proper burial. Taking his life had not been anything she’d wished and had made sure to ask for his forgiveness. Since that day she’d never killed another leopard. With a slight sigh she touched her side before Colin cleared his throat grabbing her attention.

“Where were you?” He didn’t speak of anything other than her trip through memories.

“Home,” she admitted.

“I thought you said your father’s camp was not home.”

“It is not. But Africa is.”

His gaze shuttered. “You will still leave Jo.” It wasn’t a question.

“Yes,” she said with regret.

“What about you, Najja?”

She frowned slightly. “I do not understand. What about me?”

He positioned his back against the tree and drew her to settle between his legs. She fought the urge to totally sink against him.

“When do you get to find happiness?”

Najja blinked at the question. No one, not even Jo, had ever asked her such a thing. She could not call forth any response.

You were put here for my whims. Never forget child, you live and breathe because I deign to allow it, not because you have the right. The things you have, I gave and I can take them away. Anytime. Father’s words flared in her memory.

Colin held her tight to him. She could feel his arousal pressing along her back. Desire rocked into her with the force of a squall tossing about a tiny raft.

“I am but a slave, Mr. Faulkner,” she said climbing away from his intoxicating touch and forcing all personal feelings away.

He rose with a dangerously smooth motion and stalked her. She backed against another tree mesmerized by the raw power he exuded. Awareness erupted within her and she longed to purr and rub against him. Najja couldn’t tear her eyes from him as he approached. The wind circled around them moving his dark hair and cloak.
